Biography
Born in London in 1962, Jeremy Schrecker culminated his art training with an MA (RCA) from the Royal College of Art in 1988.
Starting his art training at Wimbledon School of Art in 1981, he went on to Winchester School of Art from 1982-85 and was awarded a B.A.Hons. This culminated in a Master of Art degree from the RCA in 1988.
At the age of twenty-seven, he began his professional life as a sculptor with a large commission at Hammersmith Hospital, London. Jeremy’s following year was spent working in the Antipodes, where he gained experience in creating forms in forged steel. On his return to England, he worked for two years as a studio-based artist in Shropshire schools and then studied at the University of Huddersfield to gain a Postgraduate Certificate in Education.
In 1996, Jeremy established his workshop in Shropshire, where he has continued to hone his metalworking skills and now undertakes various commissions.
As a studio-based artist, he continually develops ideas and produces high-quality sculptures for gallery sale. He also works as a freelance teacher and runs workshops on various aspects of sculptural art upon request.
“For the fine art sculpture, my procedure is glyptic, mainly in granites or plaster. I sometimes use construction, more often, incorporating the elemental process of forging metal pieces in mild or stainless steel. Bronze castings are created from plaster carving and I then use formulaic chemicals to produce colourful atmospheric patination on the finished surface.
“A focus on humanity or animal with conscious or unconscious referral to the macrocosm of universal nature. Producer of biomorphic forms. Referral to surrealist art gives rise to liberating impulses. Abstraction – surrealism nearly in control. Works subject to a duality depicting connectedness – either opposites or togetherness.
“My influences and inspirers are:
Henry Moore, Constantini Brâncuși, Isamu Noguchi. Of today’s living artists – Helene Blumenfeld, John Huggins and Therese Oulton.”
